Keep up with the action all season long: 2015 Frisco High School Football Schedules and Results
And now, after what amounts to a two game tuneup, it’s off to the nitty gritty of District play for the denizens of 9-5A…
Frisco (2-0) @ Little Elm (0-2)—Fri. 9/11 @ 7:00 @ Lobos Stadium
The Little Elm Lobos have stumbled out of the gate, allowing over 40 points per game while scoring less than 10 per contest.
The Lobos, led by the Seale Brothers—RB Joshua (145 yds, TD) and WR C.J. (103 yds) don’t truly have the personnel around them to maximize their effectiveness.
The Raccoons are a truly balanced team that lives and dies with the running game, coupled with a tough, bend-don’t-break defense. If RB Idrees Ali can come to close to last week’s monster game, it’s going to be near impossible for Little Elm to get off the tracks when the Wing-T train is coming.
Heritage (2-0) @ The Colony (0-2)—Fri. 9/11 @ 7:00 PM @ Tommy Briggs Stadium
The Colony Cougars will be tasked with finding a way to stop a Coyotes offense that’s been putting an average of 43 points per game on the board through their first two games.
For The Colony to have any success against Heritage, they must place the full brunt of their efforts in containing The Big Three: QB Amare Jones (24/38, 293 yds, 3 TDs), RB Kene Nwangwu (366 yds, 6 TDs) and WR Bubba Ogbebor (190 yds, 2 TDs).
Despite their 0-2 record, it isn’t as if the Cougars are devoid of offensive weapons.
RB Khalil Banks is one of the finest runners in the district, and has compiled 326 yds with 5 TDs, despite an inexperienced offensive line. QB Jemel Jones Jr., has looked sharp, connecting on 74% of his passes for 231 yds and two TDs.
Independence (1-1) @ Liberty (0-2)—Fri. 9/11 @ 7:00 PM @ Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium
The Independence Knights, riding the high of their big win against FW Castleberry a week ago, will look to compile back-to-back wins for the first time in their young history. In order to pull off this feat, they’ll have to get by a hungry Liberty RedHawks team, who are looking to notch their first win of the young 2015 season.
The RedHawks recovered well after their Week 1 tub-thumping at the hands of Denison. Last week, Liberty was a failed extra point kick away from sending McKinney into OT, after QB Grant Buss scored on a three-yard run with thirty-sevens second remaining in regulation.
This matchup should be a real test for the Knights, as the RedHawks boast a powerful running game, led by Dimitri Jones (238 yards, 3 TDs) and boast WRs Chris McPhaul (99 yds, TD) and Reggie Chaney (83 yds), two of Buss’ key targets.
Lone Star (2-0) @ Wakeland (1-1)—Fri. 9/11 @ 7:00 PM @ Toyota Stadium
For the Wolverines to pull off the upset, their defense will have to put together their best game yet.
Granted, they have played two high octane offenses in Lake Dallas and Lovejoy, but the Lone Star Rangers are in some kind of a groove, boasting back-to-back 48-point games.
One key for Wakeland will be if star RB Jay Orji (308 yds, 2 TDs) can find open lanes with the same consistency as he did against Lovejoy a week ago. But the real test will be if Wakeland can withstand the pounding that Jason Shelley and company unleashed in weeks one and two—when you watch the Rangers, you get the sense that there might even room for improvement; and that’s a scary thought.
Legacy Christian (1-0) VS Colleyville Covenant Christian (1-1)— Fri. 9/11 @ 7:30 @ Comstock Field
Legacy Christian looked to be in mid-season form during Week 1. This is due in no small measure to the fact that the Eagles have found an heir apparent to former QB Ryan Davis.
Junior Jack Henry Knight ran the show—and made it look easy—as he knew the precise moment to hit WRs Pepper Snider (83 yds, TD) and Holt Kelley (72 yds, TD), when to leave the pocket and run it himself (one rushing TD), and, of course, when to hand it off to formidable RB Chase Eisenmann (165 yds, 3 TDs). Any game plan for Colleyville Covenant will be focused on how to stop Eisenmann, who reels off 150-plus yard games with the same frequency that Floyd Mayweather Jr. boasts—that is to say: all the time.
