The Lifestyle Frisco Game of the Week saw yet another Frisco school remain undefeated. All told, Week 3 witnessed Frisco football teams go 5-2; a great way to tune up for next week’s dawn of district play. Here’s a re-cap of all of last week’s high school football action from around the pride of Collin County.
W Frisco (2-1) vs Lovejoy (2-1)—49-36
The Raccoons snuck into the Area 4A Top 20 as they pounded previously undefeated Lovejoy for 540 yards of total offense, featuring 386 yards on the ground. Frisco did an excellent job of subduing a Lovejoy offense that had averaged over 53 points per game.
RB Max Steitle was otherworldly; putting up numbers better suited for a video game than a real-life boxscore. Steitle rushed for 297 yards on 26 carries…QB Jake Battaglia was cooly efficient, dissecting the Leopards’ secondary for 154 yards with three TDs on just five completions. He also pierced the end zone for two rushing TDs. Once again, Dayton Bush scored on nearly every reception; he caught three passes for 103 yards and two quick scores.
Up Next: Bye Week
W Frisco Centennial (2-1) vs McKinney North (1-2)—43-27
Centennial’s offense once again showed why the Titans are the area’s No. 13 ranked 4A team, as they cruised to a two-possession win over McKinney North.
QB Kelly Cordova highlighted the district’s most complete offense by throwing for 261 yards and two TDs, as well as running for 70 yards and finding the end zone on three additional occasions.
Karmari Burnett let loose for 137 yards on just 10 carries, and Jackson Grimes and Devin McCord caught 18 passes for two scores and over 200 yards combined.
Up Next: Bye Week
W Frisco Heritage (1-2) @ Greenville (0-3)—56-49
When Heritage put up 42 points in a loss to Lovejoy to start the season, everyone knew that the Coyotes offense could put points on the board.
After exploding for 29 points in the second quarter on the way to a 56-point outburst, Heritage might be showing the makings of an elite-offense.
Sure, the defense needs some help, as they have surrendered an average of 482 yards per game; but after a one-win season just a year ago, there is little doubt that Head Coach Che Hendrix has implemented the necessary changes to make his Coyotes the district’s most-improved team.
Malik Walker passed for 293 yards with 4 TDs, and Kene Nwangwu gained 119 yards on 23 carries to pace Heritage.
Up Next: Bye Week
L Frisco Liberty (0-3) @ Denison (1-2)—16-33
The Yellowjackets’ defense proved to be too much for Liberty, as the Red Hawks could muster only 178 yards of total offense; 98 yards of which was from four different running backs.
Liberty could find no answer to slowing down Denison’s Denard Whitfield or Devon Blanton as the two combined for over 300 rushing yards and four TDs.
WR Josh Ryan (2/28, yards) and QB Connor Robison (10/24, 80 yards) each scored once for the Red Hawks.
Up Next: Bye Week
L Frisco Wakeland (1-1) vs Richardson Pearce (1-2)—23-26
Too many Wolverine turnovers and Pearce’s bruising ground game—fueled by two-headed monster Geoffrey Nwarie and Gjordan Dumas—proved too much for even a late rally to overcome.
Wakeland’s Alex Marr caught five passes for 113 yards and a TD, and RB Brent Altieri found the end zone despite being held to just 34 yards rushing. Even with the loss, Wakeland stayed in the Area 4A Top 20, at 15th.
Up Next: Vs. Trinity Christian-Addison (3-0)—The Wolverines’ defense will have their hands full with a TCA offense that is averaging 54 points per game. Their high-scoring ways are why they are ranked as the No. 1 large private school in the area.
3A
W Lone Star (3-0) vs Lake Worth (2-1)—54-20
At least one Rangers team can muster some wins. The Lone Star Rangers pushed their record to 3-0 in last week’s Game of the Week matchup with the previously unblemished Bullfrogs of Lake Worth.
Chase Moake and Ramon Harris paced Lone Star as they cruised to an easy win on the strength of 481 total yards of offense.
Up Next: @ Van Alstyne (1-1)—The Rangers head north to Van Alstyne looking to stop the hit-or-miss Panthers’ offense and pad their record to 4-0.
TAPPS/Parochial
W Frisco Legacy Christian (3-0) @ Muenster Sacred Heart (2-1)—41-34
The Sacred Heart Tigers exploded out of the gates taking a 21-6 lead after the first quarter. But just as it seemed Legacy Christian may be in for an upset, Ryan Davis took over.
Davis scored on runs of 15 and 27 yards in the second quarter alone to give Legacy a 26-20 lead at halftime. Legacy’s defense made the necessary adjustments, preventing any further explosive quarters from Sacred Heart.
All told, the QB combined for 376 yards of total offense accounting for five total touchdowns. Christian Gregory was the lone Eagle to see the end zone not named Davis, and his fourth quarter TD iced the late rally of Sacred Heart.
Up Next: Vs. Fort Worth Southwest Christian (1-2)—Southwest Christian heads to Frisco to see about halting Legacy’s undefeated start. SCS will have their work cut out for them; but stopping Ryan Davis might not be enough for an Eagles upset.
Be sure to check back this Thursday, as Lifestyle Frisco brings you the preview of the Game of the Week between the Frisco Wakeland Wolverines and the top-ranked Trinity Christian-Addison Trojans.
