
Tax time is here, but we’ve got PLENTY of fun to distract you… With Frisco Area Children’s Theater bringing back the 50’s, Fire Safety Town, the Collin College CougarRun 5K and Coffee with the Mayor, we’ve got all kinds of spring things to do in Frisco this week!

Since it’s inception the Frisco StrEATS event has grown year over year. Presented by the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, this years Food Truck festival will have more than 20 food trucks, 6 bands, 30 local product vendors and for the first time, 15 local artists displaying their works. A children’s area will offer games and face painting for the youngsters. Beer and wine will be available for purchase by the adults. Last years event was attended by over 12 thousand people. This is an event you don’t want to miss!

“14th Annual Shattered Dreams Program” – The Frisco Police Department, in conjunction with the Frisco Fire Department and Frisco Independent School District, will be hosting the 14th annual Shattered Dreams program this month. The first event will be held at Frisco High school on April 7th and 8th. The second will be held at Independence High School on April 14th and April 15th. Each program will begin on each Thursday at 11:00 am and run through each Friday morning.
Shattered Dreams is a two-day program designed to educate students about the dangers of underage drinking and the severe consequences that can result from impaired driving. A Citizen Advisory Committee that oversees Frisco’s Photo Enforcement program voted to use red light fines to fund both of these presentations. The program is coordinated by the police department’s School Resource Officer Unit and rotates through different high schools each year.
As part of the Shattered Dreams experience, a motor vehicle crash reenactment will take place in front of each school that includes an actual response from police, fire, CareFlite and other emergency responders, weather permitting.
Due to the reenactment on April 7th, Parkwood Boulevard will be closed from Stonebrook to Chapel Creek. During the event on April 14th, Independence will be closed in front of Independence High school, between Casarosa and Sumac. The road closures will last from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during each event. Motorists are urged to find an alternate route during these times. “First Friday Breakfast Meeting of Frisco Area Creatives” – Starting at 8am at 5th Street Cafe, the Frisco Area Creatives is a group for the of support creatives in the communities surrounding Frisco. “The Nifty Fifties” – It’s time to head on back to the Nifty Fifties – fast cars, drive-ins, poodle skirts and soda shops, a time when rock & roll was here to stay. Gracie is in charge of planning the Hippity Hop dance, but the gym is being remodeled. Well, there’s only one place to have it – their favorite after-school hangout! But how to get the kids to come? Invite Ziggy Springer to perform! But can Gracie get her distant … very distant cousin … to perform? Will Mrs. Nicholson even let them have the dance? And who will Donald take to the dance – Gracie or Muffin? Find the answers to these questions and many more at Frisco Area Children’s Theater production of “The Nifty Fifties” by Tim Kelly with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur. Starting at 7pm, this production in the Black Box Theater is suitable for children of all ages. Tickets are $5 for children (12 and under) and $10 for adults. Produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., Englewood, Colorado.

“5th Annual Downtown Frisco StrEATS” – The Main Street Merchants Association is hosting the 5th annual Downtown Frisco StrEATS event. This event will host more than 20 food trucks and attract more than 15,000 attendees in one afternoon. There will be live music from local and regional performers. The event will be located in the parking lot just behind the Chamber of Commerce building, south of Main St. and between 3rd and 4th streets.
“2016 Collin College CougarRun 5K and Fun Run” – The inaugural CougarRun K5 and Fun Run is presented by State Farm and The Pride at Collin College’s Preston Ridge Campus in Frisco. The event will raise funds for the Alumni Scholarship Fund at the Collin College Foundation. Collin alumni, donors, supporters, current students, faculty and staff, as well as community members are encouraged to bring their friends and families to join us for this fun, first-time event that will change the lives of deserving Collin College students! Event Registration: Regular Registration is $30 March 16-April 8. Participants may still register the day of the event; day-of-event registration is $35 per individual. “Shawnee Trail Cycling Club Group Ride Orientation Class” – Starting at 2:00 PM in Richardson Bike Mart, 8820 John Hickman Parkway, Frisco, Texas 75034. Once per month, we’re going to be hosting our class giving an introduction to riding safely on the road, both by yourself and in a group. And best of all, the class is FREE! “Coffee with the Mayor” – Frisco City Hall is serving “Coffee with the Mayor”. Residents are invited to join Mayor Maher Maso for coffee and casual conversation the second Monday of each month from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Have a question for Mayor Maso? Come hear the answers over a cup of joe. Coffee with the Mayor usually meets at City Hall inside the George A.
