Frisco Celebrates Diversity and Cultures at MLK Scholarship Gala

On Friday, January 12th, starting at 7pm, Linking Cultures of Frisco will host the “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Dinner and Gala” with the express focus on connecting our community in an awareness and appreciation of our racial and ethnic backgrounds which make us all unique and strong.

Celebrating Dr. King’s dream of unity across the races and ethnicities, as well as empowering our youth to live out the tenants of his dream.

With a vision of “unity in community,” this Frisco based non-profit, in conjunction with Mayor Jeff Cheney, is sponsoring its 8th Annual Dr. ML King Jr. Oration Contest for high school seniors in the Frisco ISD with a theme of – “Many Cultures… One Dream.”

The oratory competition will take place at the Gala in Verona Villa, and ten thousand dollars in Scholarships will be awarded. The Dinner & Gala is a formal attire event and promises to be an invigorating evening of performing arts, music, dancing, plus a riveting rendition of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech presented by renowned orator, Steven Lowenstein.

… I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low. The rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

This is our hope. This is the faith that I go back to the South with. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will he able to transform the
jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day….” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – I HAVE A DREAM

Linking Cultures of Frisco plans to sponsor several community-based initiatives throughout 2018 that will give a spotlight to cultural awareness and unity.
