Louisiana Tech outlasts FSU

I have to admit, I wasn't happy that Louisiana Tech choked at the end of the season and missed an NCAA tourney berth, but was glad that they made it into the NIT tourney. After the football bowl debacle I was pretty ticked.

I was happy to see the Bulldogs come from behind and beat Florida State in the first round play last night. First tourney game win I can remember since the Karl Malone days.

You and me both. Good thing the NIT didn't want them to face NLU in the first round, or Van De Velde may have kept them home from that too.

There have been a few others....

Beat LaSalle in the first round of the 1989 NCAA.
Beat UALR in the first round of the 1990 NIT before losing to eventual champion UCONN.
Beat SW LA and Vanderbilt in the 2002 NIT before losing by 3 to Villanova.

It is going to be interesting tonight when Southern Mississippi and Charleston Southern play. Winner faces the Bulldogs in the next round. Southern Miss is the #1 seed in our bracket but La Tech beat them in the regular season.
