Flowtography: Where Poetry and Photography Intersect

Local artist, Chet Tucker, in partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department with the City of Frisco, presents his first solo photography exhibition, “Flowtography: Where Poetry & Photography Intersect” in the Frisco Art Gallery at the Frisco Discovery Center, 8004 N. Dallas Parkway. The show abstractly pairs original narrative with stunning photography, in a combination branded by Tucker as “flowtography.”

The exhibition will open with a Himalayan theme, following the artist’s recent 100 mile journey to the Mt. Everest Base Camp. In the reception gallery, his subject matter will diversify, split between street scenes and nature pieces.

Music inspired Tucker to begin expressing himself nearly 25 years ago through writing, particularly Pearl Jam’s “10” album. He explains…

Something about the words and music shot an arrow through me… I just had such a passion for writing, storytelling with the small puzzle pieces that words allow to create a picture or story.”

However, after the death of a loved one ten years ago, he adopted the camera as his primary artistic medium.

When I was encouraged by friends and family to share some of the photography I’d been shooting, I thought about how I could blend the two mediums to create an experience beyond what I was seeing out there. ‘Flowtography’ was something that I felt I could [use to] completely express myself. I realized I just have to focus on my strengths and do what I love.”

Paige Prater, Supervisor for the Frisco Discovery Center, shared her discovery of Tucker’s art and the excitement for the upcoming exhibit.

Chet’s artistic work is an intriguing compilation of words and imagery that reflect his diverse experiences and his sensitivity and familiarity with the human spirit. I’m grateful for the opportunity to host his solo show in the Frisco Art Gallery for the public to enjoy.”

The “Flowtography” exhibition runs September 3- October 1, 2016, with a public reception and gallery talk on Saturday, September 10, from 3-5PM.
