Sports have a way of bringing strangers together who end up like family. That’s the case with the relationship between the late Bill Keaton and the Texas Legends, and it continues in the form of a scholarship in Bill’s name. Making a difference in a students’ life is quite a way to leave a legacy.
The Texas Legends will join with Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star to celebrate their second annual Bill Keaton night. On February 1, 2020, the Legends and SPC will honor William “Bill” Alton Keaton, Founding CEO of Baylor Medical Center of Frisco, awarding the second Bill Keaton Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship was launched last season at the center of the Legends’ court, which was dedicated the “Bill Keaton Court”. Dallas Mavericks President/General Manager and Legends Owner Donnie Nelson said,
Bill was one of our biggest fans. He was a member of our family and he supported us from day one, and it is a joy to continue to carry on his legacy with things that he loved—sports and helping others.
As the Legends host the Austin Spurs, the team will suit up in custom jerseys designed to spotlight the Bill Keaton Memorial Scholarship and include branding for the Baylor Scott & White SPC. Fans will be given opportunities throughout the night to donate and will learn how Frisco ISD seniors can apply for the scholarship.
In addition, supporters can donate in advance of the game by visiting http://igfn.us/vf/KEATON or by texting KEATON to 71777 to donate through their mobile devices.
The Legends are really in their element when they pull together, partner up with local businesses and give back, especially when it involves nurturing the professional development of a young person. Legends President/General Manager Malcolm Farmer said,
This is my favorite part of sports and particularly our unique position in the industry. We have the ability to celebrate someone who meant so much to all of us and so many in this community in a way that only we can do. Our Baylor/SPC family created this scholarship as a way of keeping Bill’s legacy alive and we get to join with them in their endeavors, to raise funds and spread the word.
Bill valued education and was a local leader involved in organizations to serve others and the future of his community. Keaton served as a past board member for Frisco Family Services and Care View Communications and was involved with the Frisco Industrial Council, and the Sherman Chamber of Commerce.
Throughout his career in healthcare, Keaton was recognized among the “Top 15 Physician Owned Hospital CEO’s” and as one of the “Top 58 Healthcare Industry Leaders in the US” by Becker’s Healthcare magazine.
The second annual Bill Keaton Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in the Spring of 2020 to a deserving Frisco ISD senior to further their education.
The game will tip off at 7:30pm on February 1, 2020.
