“SHADE: Aesthetics in Black, White, and Gray” Art Exhibit

shadeFrom Tuesday, October 1st, to Sunday, November 3rd, the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco will present “SHADE: Aesthetics in Black, White, and Gray,” a members-only juried art show in the Frisco Discovery Center, 8004 N. Dallas Parkway.  The Artist Reception will be held on October 5th from 7-9 p.m in the exhibition hall.

The two most extreme color tones are black (very dark) and white (very light). Recognizing the tone of a color, rather than just the hue, is important to a painter because successful paintings have tonal contrast in them, or a range of values.  A painting with only mid-tones risks being flat and dull. Value or tonal contrast creates visual interest or excitement in a painting. A “high-key” painting is one in which the contrasts in value or tone are extreme, from black right through the range of mid-tones down to white.

This high-key idea sparked an interest in the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco (VAGF) members.  What could you do, what would you have to do, to create visual interest and excitement with only three hues: black, white, and gray… Three hues, yet infinite possibilities.

Come and see what artists in your backyard are creating and VOTE for your FAVORITE piece any time between October 1st and 5th, and then join us for the reception at 7PM on October 5th in the Frisco Art Gallery to find out who won the “People’s Choice Award.”

The Visual Arts Guild of Frisco is a volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting the visual arts and educating the public. Founded in 2001, VAGF has grown to become a vital part of the local arts community. Each year, they host numerous art exhibits, workshop,s and educational lectures for our members and the public. VAGF holds monthly membership meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm at the Frisco Discovery Center, and membership is $30 per year.
