Texas Legends: Skid Reaches 4; Austin Toros In Frisco for 2-Games

The Texas Legends ended January on a high note, as they took down the Central Division leading Rio Grande Valley Vipers 125-118 in front of 5,640 thrilled fans at Dr. Pepper Arena.  Sadly, they have  not been able to pick up where they left off in January, as they are now winless in February, having dropped four-straight.

L Texas Legends (16-14) @ Idaho Stampede (16-12)—122-136

The Idaho Stampede has enough talent to make several NBA teams jealous.  With two former NBA second-rounders in Pierre Jackson (30.5 ppg) and Kevin Murphy (24.4 ppg) Idaho stomped the Legends into submission with their relentless scoring attack.

Jackson, the 42nd pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, established a new D-League single-game scoring mark with an astounding 58 points.  Murphy, who was taken with the 47th overall pick the year before Jackson, knocked down 39 points himself.

On the bright side, Ricky Ledo established a new personal high with his 24 points off the bench, and the Legends’ very own game changer, P.J. Hairston, led Texas with 25 points.  And the Legends’ own top-prospect, Devin Ebanks, produced 17 points with seven rebounds.

The Legends let a five-point advantage slip away in the final minute of play against the Bakersfield Jam last Friday to drop their third-straight game. Former Legend Jared Cunningham led the Jam in points with 29, and orchestrated the late rally, as Archie Goodwin secured the win with his two late free throws.

Devin Ebanks notched a double-double with 36 points and 12 rebounds, and P.J. Hairston once again dominated with 29 points and four steals.  Melvin Ely netted 21 points.  After establishing a career high with 24 points earlier last week against the Stampede, Ledo was held to just three points from the bench.

The woes continue for the Legends in February as they dropped their fourth-straight, and their seventh over their last eight games.  Once again, it was poor bench production coupled with a late game defensive effort that sealed the Legends’ fate.

Devin Ebanks led the Legends with 26 points, while P.J. Hairston (17 pts) and Mickey McConnell (16 pts, 7 assists) combined for 33 points, eight assists and 10 rebounds.  Ledo returned to form with 12 points, six assists and three rebounds.
