Week5Review

The potential playoff puzzle is starting to come into focus as Week 5 witnessed two teams rise to the top of District 9-4A while remaining undefeated.  Now every Frisco ISD school has at least one win.  Here’s a recap of the Week 5 scores and highlights.

Game of the Week

L Frisco (1-1) Vs. The Colony (2-0)—14-20

The Frisco High Raccoons knew that in order to hand The Colony Cougars their first loss, their game plan would have to center around stopping Bryan Hammond.

Coming off a ridiculous six-touchdown performance a week ago, Hammond—despite gaining 254 yards on 30 carries—was held somewhat in check and limited to three TDs.

This game, tied up at 7-7 entering the fourth quarter, turned out to be all about defense as the Cougars relentless running game simply outlasted a spirited Raccoons effort.  With 8:10 remaining in the game, Hammond went on a 34-yard run to give The Colony their first lead of the game.  Frisco’s Rasheed Kilpatrick tied it up again with a 10-yard run before Hammond finished off the Raccoons for good with a 22-yard score.

Frisco High managed 277 total yards against the stingy Cougars defense with RB Max Steitle leading the attack with 120 yards.  Rasheed Kilpatrick provided the scoring with two TDs on just four carries.  T.J. Keys managed two receptions for 53 yards.

W Frisco Centennial (2-0) Vs. Prosper (0-2)—40-20

The Titans moved into a two-way tie atop District 9-4A with The Colony as they won big despite a 20-point fourth quarter outburst by Prosper.

QB Kelly Cordova was his usual efficient self—throwing for 359 yards with 2 TDs, and adding an additional two scores via 61 yards rushing.  WR Devin McCord had a big night collecting 149 yards and hauling in two touchdowns.  Kamari Burnett paced the running game with 111 yards and a touchdown.

W Frisco Liberty (1-1) Vs. Little Elm (0-2)—22-18

The Little Elm Lobos mounted a serious rally in the fourth quarter as they put up 15 points, but Liberty managed to hold on for their first victory of the year.

QB Connor Robison was the star of the show with 208 yards of total offense and two TDs.  Rodray Perkins picked up 33 yards on three receptions and Chris McPhaul rushed for 64 yards on 13 carries.  Kyle Parks connected of field goals from 34 and 28 yards in the first quarter supply—which would turn out to be the difference in the game.

W Frisco Wakeland (1-1) @ Frisco Heritage (1-1)—28-23

With a shaky 14-9 at halftime, Wakeland pulled away from Heritage for good with a 14-point third quarter—the only time either team would score more than once in a quarter.

RB Brent Altieri was the slam-dunk player of the game as he rushed for 210 yards and scored twice.  QB Jackson Lamb found the end zone on two runs despite his -13 yards rushing.

The Coyotes’ Malik Walker quietly  had an outstanding game as the QB was 22/31 with 209 yards passing and three TDs.  Sean Jones found open space be it running or receiving as he had 122 total yards of offense with a TD, and WR Keaton White picked up 59 yards and two scores.

L Frisco Lone Star (5-1) @ Sanger (4-2)—35-42

Lone Star running back Ramon Harris had a huge night as he rushed for 194 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. The only problem was that Sanger’s RB had an even bigger night.

Tre’Von Jackson scored four times on 267 yards and it was his 2-yard scamper in the pivotal third quarter that proved the difference.  Aside from that aforementioned quarter, the Rangers and the Indians went point-for-point, aside from a second quarter two-point conversion attempt that failed.

QBs Jason Shelley and Chase Moake were a combined 9/15 with three TDs and 208 yards passing.  Jordan Jones (5/104, 2 TDs) had a big game once again and Michael Bordes found the end zone via a 52-yard reception in the second quarter.

L Frisco Legacy Christian (4-2) @ First Baptist (5-0)—28-56

A third quarter 27-point outburst by First Baptist proved too much for the Eagles to overcome as the Saints marched to 5-0.

Down 22-21 at halftime, Legacy Christian was ill prepared for the First Baptist third quarter onslaught that saw four different players score in rapid succession, including a 51-yard pick-6 by Jeremy Brooks.

Legacy’s Ryan Davis threw for 232 yards and three TDs, finding WRs Tom Mask in the end zone once, and Christian Gregory twice.  Chase Eisenmann rushed for 31 yards and added a TD as well.
