It’s always wonderful to see new businesses set up in this ever-growing city, but it’s extra special to see something independent and unique to arrive.
Crafted Wood Craft Studio, Frisco’s newest instructional DIY business, is the brainchild of two local ladies Melissa Winton and Melissa LaGrange. Affectionately known as the “M & M’s,” they became friends a few years ago, having first met through James, Melissa Winton’s husband.
Melissa Winton has pursued a career in Theater and Set Design, combined with successfully building, running, and consulting on the construction of Haunted House attractions and teaching at Haunted Conventions. Melissa La Grange has a background in product marketing and design plus market research working with big brands like Pier 1 and Bed, Bath, & Beyond.
Bonding over their love of all things crafty, sharing ideas on home projects, and their dangerously addictive relationship with Pinterest, they often dreamed of running their own business.
For a Girl’s Night Out, they attended a local BYOB craft event and later that night after many hours of discussion, decided they should stop talking, put their ideas into action and came up with the concept of Crafted.
While the rustic look has long been a décor favorite with homeowners, more and more people are choosing to not only refurbish old furniture or home decor items, but personalizing those same pieces with special memories or significance.
The idea at Crafted is to provide a place that anyone… Men, women, and children can enjoy time out to use different textiles and materials under quality instruction and bring home a special piece of art or décor, all of their own making.
Whether a couples night out, a GNO, a guys get-together, corporate team building groups, kids and adult birthday parties, or family celebrations, you name it. They’re ready to listen to any idea or concept and tailor it for a fun and productive evening at their studio. They have a wide range of projects on offer to suit your parties needs and welcome any level of expertise or skill to participate.

I was lucky enough to participate in a wonderful ‘Make & Take’ event at Crafted recently. The two Melissa’s and their husbands welcomed us into a cozy studio equipped with all sorts of materials and tools to get busy on a piece of personalized home décor.
Coupled with beer, wine and good company, I had the most relaxing and fun evening with friends. While we took time to choose our materials and consider projects, we also helped each other ponder design and color choices. Even those a little out of their comfort zone embraced the evening with fun support from ‘the Melissas’ and their partners. Sleeves rolled up and power tools at the ready we sanded, painted and stenciled our way to a beautiful personalized piece of décor to walk out and take home.
Crafted will also host a monthly open house, better known as “Thursday Night Tastings,” where they will invite local breweries, wineries, and distilleries to come in for one hour to sample their products for FREE. Afterward, they will then host a class, which you can either participate in for a fee, or you can just stay and watch. For example, in June there was a beer and wine appreciation night sponsored by TUPPS Brewery and afterward, everyone had the opportunity to make beer and wine caddies or a bottle opener.
Consider Crafted for your next night out, whether it be with a small group of friends, your significant other or a company event. Just sign up, and let Melissa and Melissa welcome you into their world of materials, textiles, paint and power-tools. Spending time with these ladies is like a song to the soul.
The energy, fun and passion for what they do is infectious and it’s so easy to see they are living on cloud nine having made a dream business come true, but most importantly they are excited about sharing it with the local public. Check out their website and Facebook page for more detailed info on projects and class sizes and get Crafted!
