Christmas Shopping the Frisco Way

The lights are going up at my neighbor’s house and are on full-blast in Frisco Square. The stores have been ready since September and all the signs show that Christmas is coming fast.

Every year it seems that the world wants to push Christmas forward on the calendar and the commercial community wants you to start shopping as soon as you can. Black Friday has become Black Thursday (and even Black Wednesday Night!) and the stress of trying to find the right gifts is always an issue for many shoppers.

Personally, I don’t go out on Black Friday, and especially not Thanksgiving Day, and I’m always on the lookout for alternative, preferably small and local, places to shop as oppose to the usual retail giants.

Believe it or not, Frisco has some great stores for Christmas gifts with the added benefit of supporting our thriving local economy. Here are a few new ideas…

National Videogame History Museum

Video games aren’t just for kids anymore, and the ever-growing billion dollar industry proves it. With video games being around one way or another since the 1950’s, the history of change and expansion is fascinating.

The National Videogame Museum, right here next to the Frisco Discovery Center, has a complete history of videogames, development, and play. Atari, Nintendo, PlayStation, and X Box are just some of the names you can find and learn more about at the museum.

But, the best part of the museum is that you can play with these games from decades ago while learning about their personal history. Group tickets and memberships can be purchased online at nvmusa.org individual tickets can be purchased onsite. Ticket prices are as follows:

Serenity Nails & Day Spa

Try some pampering, via an actual trip or a gift card or two, for HIM and HER at Serenity Day Spa. Everyone knows that there is a nail salon on almost every corner of Frisco as we Southern ladies like to keep up appearances. But when we first moved to Frisco, it took me five trips to different salons to finally find the perfect place… Serenity Nails & Day Spa, and I’ve never looked back.

At Serenity, you can count on dependably professional and knowledgeable technicians who give your, or your loved ones, hands and feet that extra polish.

Sip-N-Doodle

Ok let’s be honest. Painting and drawing is hard for most people, but what if you could drink while you try? Somehow, that changes everything.

With over 500 images to choose from, let your creative side loose. Sip-n- Doodle allows you to come in groups, or just as a couple to paint, learn, and indulge some adult bevvies. Within two hours, you’ll have a work of art to take home and hang proudly in your house. For more information go to sipndoodle.com, make reservations, and purchase an artistic gift for the holidays.

Dinner OUTSIDE of the Kitchen

With the holidays comes a lot of cooking and baking, leftovers, and eating at home for what feels like days on end. Don’t get me wrong! It’s great and my refrigerator is full. But after the family has left town and people are getting back into the normal routine, you just don’t want to cook for a while (or have to clean up the mess). So, how about a list of local restaurants that offer giftcards for stocking stuffers and gifts:

Lillian Welch

Behind a French door, on Main Street in downtown Frisco, you’ll enter a world of crisp white linens, magical paintings, and beautiful antiques mixed together in an artistic menagerie. Anne Marie Lindsey, the self-professed shopkeeper, treasure seeker, and new Frisco retail resident, will greet you with the biggest smile. Besides her love of all things vintage, she is passionate about design. She had a vision of being in a place where she could inspire others and introduce them to her ideas, home furnishings, and also her love of Belle Notte, a line of easy-care, garment-dyed luxury linens of heirloom-quality that appeal to all tastes. Have a decorista in your life? Check off this gift with ease at Lilian Welch.

Wendistry

For the female fashionistas, and unknown to most in Frisco, there is a brand new handbag designer who believes, “You’ll never influence the world by trying to be like it. In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” Wendistry is a contemporary hand-painted handbag atelier with a focus on capsule collections, impeccable craftsmanship, “slow fashion” standards, and colorful creativity. Shown at New York Fashion Week, each highly curated colorway is a collector’s item and individually SIGNED and NUMBERED as a limited edition piece. This is THE gift for the woman who wants to stand out from the crowd as these handbags are literally a painting in your hand. Check out the site often for deals and steals!

Suad believes that life is full of challenges, but your wardrobe shouldn’t be one of them — and that’s where he enters the picture. Suad is here for the guy who doesn’t have the time (or, perhaps, the inclination) to find clothes that fit his lifestyle or body type. So, drop Suad a note and he’ll set an appointment for all the guys you need gifts for, or hook you up with some holiday specials and gift certificates.

M&D Sorority Gifts
