Burger 21 opened it’s doors in Frisco on Monday January 11th. Located right below Gearbox and off of World Cup Way, Burger 21 is a new addition to the growing Frisco Square area.
Burger 21 prides itself in specialty burgers of all styles and meat which includes turkey, beef and chicken, as well as hand-crafted shakes. The burger concept started back in 2009 when the owners of “The Melting Pot” restaurants came up with an idea to create a modern, fast-casual burger restaurant that offered a variety of quality food that would change the burger game. With signature shakes like Bananas Foster or Key Lime Pie, Burger 21 has a little something for everyone.
The Burgers
On my visit for lunch, I got a chance to sit down with store manager, Jon Buckner, and of course, I had to order a burger. I wasn’t sure which burger to get, but settled on the Tex-Mex Haystack. Gouda cheese, fresh guacamole, and a chipotle-jalapeno sauce on a toasted brioche bun made this burger outstanding.
Jon did speak very highly and tried to convince me to get me to eat “The OMG” or the “Ahi Tuna ” burger, but I had to go with the Tex-Mex Haystack. The sides and drinks are separate, so you do have an option if you only want the burger. They also have sliders, chicken tenders, turkey chili, and some salad options. With a name like Burger 21, you can’t go for a salad.
The Atmosphere
Burger 21 offers some outside covered seating with heaters for the cooler days. The inside has plenty of seating for a quick lunch or dinner, but you can also get your food to go. They also have a small selection of bottled beer and some wine by the glass.
Jon told me all about their new featured items which have an island theme. The “Toasted Coconut Dream” is a milkshake with vanilla ice cream, cream of coconut, and it’s topped with whipped cream and toasted coconut.
They are also offering the “Marley Meltdown” named after Bob Marley for their “burger of the month.” This burger is jerk-seasoned with Monterey Jack Cheese, plantain chips, and a house-made Caribbean ketchup.
These are just some of the things we like to do here at Burger 21,” Buckner said. “We believe in keeping things fresh and being creative. All our burgers and product are made here in-store. We order the best beef from Michigan and make our burger from scratch. We also offer a few draft and bottle options with some local beers like Franconia, Deep Ellum Brewery, and Community.”
The location looked like they had a lot of Gearbox employees dining there for lunch.
Having the Gearbox team upstairs as our neighbors really makes for a great lunch. And, with the opening of Ablon (apartment complex), more people living and dining in Frisco Square has only helped the lunch business. With all the events at Toyota Stadium, Gearbox, and hopefully with Medical City now here, our foot traffic should grow over the next few months.”
With burgers being one of our country’s favorite food, having Burger 21 in Frisco makes sense. So, if you are stopping by for a quick lunch, or or before the game, or maybe you are ordering online for a pick up, make sure you say hi to Jon and let him know what you think. And, FYI… This month’s “burger of the month” is a “Breakfast All Day” burger, an amazing concoction of burger beef with egg, bacon, and crispy hash brown.
We want to hear from our friends and customers. It’s the only way we are going to know if we are doing something right or not. Being involved in our community is very important to us.”
