Does your kitchen need an extra sparkle? How about a fancier display for those appetizers you’re famous for providing? Or, maybe you just want to add some flair to your end tables. Then check out Cicely’s Jazzy Art to add some colorful art cutting boards or coasters to your home.
Frisco artist Cicely Miller is originally from New Orleans, and the vibrancy of that city shines through her work. Although she has also lived in the northwest and on the east coast, the influences most visible in her creations are those of her hometown and of her adopted state, Texas.
Viewers of her art are first struck by the vitality of the color. In her words, “I love working with exciting colors because it really catches your attention and brings uplifting energy to the room.” Further, she works in a variety of styles, utilizing everything from black and white pencil drawings to digital art to create her work. When asked to name a favorite medium, she replied, “I enjoy bringing the different media together,” noting that each offers different textures that provide a depth to her pieces. In fact, she uses the phrase “gumbo of art” to describe what she does, and it’s a perfect phrase, recalling again that New Orleans influence, while also providing an image of the delectable coming together of diverse ingredients.
Beyond her love for creating art, Cicely also enjoys bringing us functional art, providing ways to incorporate art in more practical applications. With help from her uncle, who uses a process called sublimation to reproduce her work onto glass, she has developed a series of cutting boards. Later, she expanded her offerings to include glass coasters. In the future, she is hoping to expand into textiles, likely starting with scarves.
Although she markets them as cutting boards, she often offers other suggestions on the versatility of the boards. For instance, a Cicely Miller board would make an excellent serving tray, providing a beautiful showcase for that cheese platter. In the bath, it becomes a lovely display tray for makeup, perfume and other vanity items.
In addition to the boards and coasters, Cicely offers her work as prints and on canvas.
Her collection is currently available online at http://www.cjazzyart.com/.
Locally, Sierra Market now carries a selection of her cutting boards and coasters, as well. (Sierra Market is located at 7777 Warren Pkwy, Frisco, TX 75034, just east of the DNT. – Map)
If you are looking for a unique gift, Cicely Miller’s work is definitely worth consideration.
