Father’s Day can be a tough one. Sure, you could just pick him up another tie or “World’s Best Dad” coffee mug… He probably wouldn’t make a fuss. But why not put a little extra thought into it and make his day something special? After all, we’re talking about the guy who probably taught you how to tie your shoelaces, play catch, change a flat tire, and a thing or two about being your best.
Here’s a few local ideas like places to eat, fun activities for all the family, and last minute gift options; some are even by our own creative Frisco residents.
With an abundance of really good food offerings in Frisco any day of the week, it’s still the weekend brunch that’s a particular favorite among Frisco families. I recently tried the weekend brunch at Mattitos on Main right at the corner of Frisco Square, and was I glad I wore my loose fitting pants! Wow what a feast! Besides the usual vast buffet with a Mexican twist, try the omelet station, waffle station, or the highlight – a chocolate fountain! Top it off with bottomless mimosas, and everyone in the family will be happy!
Try for a reservation at TruFire Kitchen & Bar. A progressive American restaurant with Mediterranean and globally inspired dishes, TruFire serves up a unique brunch with an Italian twist… The highlight being the bacon and egg pizza. Yum!
For the more casual dads who crave a nostalic dining experience, there’s Norma’s Café, an award-winning true American Diner. For those early riser dads, they open at 7am with a cheery down-home welcome (and strong, hot coffee for you). Check out their special Country Breakfast, and I dare you try and leave without a take-out dessert!
With your appetite sated, let’s move on to a day of…
Frisco Water Park: That Texas heat has arrived, and what better way to cool off than a day of family water fun at the newly opened and extended Frisco Athletic Center water park. Take the “Preston Plunge” together, relax in the extended lazy river, or cool off with the younger family members in “the FORT.” Cooler boxes from home are welcome for your own picnic, or take advantage of the food options at their new concession stand. Something for all ages and a great way to keep cool!
iFly: Experience the adrenaline rush together as you skydive like a superhero, without a parachute! Arriving in Frisco just last year, this has become a very popular venue for a fun family outing that’s completely hair-raising.
Strikz Bowling: Bowling is an easy laid-back way to enjoy some family time. Even your toddlers can enjoy it with you as special ramps and light-weight balls are provided. This summer, don’t miss out on their great “Kids Bowl Free” offer where you can register all of your children to receive two FREE Games of Bowling daily all summer long!
Stonebriar Mall: Enjoy a family day of shopping that’s completely focused on Dad! Let him browse and choose a gift from their custom made list. Stop by the carousel for cute photos, and if you get hungry again, try something from over ten eateries in their large food court. You could also enjoy an array of popular restaurants both inside and outside the center. Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, and Buca di Beppo are only a few of the many options on the north-side corners of Preston Road and SRT 121.
