Flamant: Tanner Agar Brings Modern Mediterranean Magic Back to North Dallas

June 5, 2025 by Carrie Himel
Flamant

At the edge of the Boardwalk in Plano, a new restaurant is opening its doors—and for Chef-Owner Tanner Agar, it’s more than a debut. It’s a return. A reconnection. A full-circle moment.

Flamant Bar and Bistro, a modern Mediterranean concept, officially launches on June 10, with a soft opening this week for those eager to get a first taste. I had the opportunity to meet Tanner, hear the story behind the concept, and try the food—and let me tell you: this one’s special.

From McKinney to Dallas… and Back Again

Tanner Agar and his business partner, Taylor, launched their culinary careers in Downtown McKinney with their first restaurant, Rye.

“We were just 25 and 26,” Tanner told me. “Two guys who moved out here to make a name for ourselves.”

And they did. Rye quickly became a destination, drawing diners from Plano, Frisco, and beyond with its creative plates and elevated, intimate vibe. During COVID, the duo opened Rye Dallas, which built its own loyal following. But in 2022, their original McKinney location tragically burned down, cutting off the roots of the community that had supported them from the very beginning.

“It’s like going back to the team that drafted you,” Tanner said with a smile. “I got traded away for a bit—no hard feelings—but now I’m back home and I want to cook for this community again.”

A Taste of the Mediterranean—and a Past Life

Flamant is modern Mediterranean, but it’s more than just a regional label. The food draws from Tanner’s own lived experiences—having spent time in Mallorca and France, working in restaurants and absorbing the European rhythm of life, food, and connection.

“There’s something so beautiful about doing the simple things really, really well,” he said. “Even just bread, butter, and a tomato spread. It’s not complicated. But when it’s done right—you’re in Barcelona, you’re on a patio, you’re happy. That’s the feeling I want people to have here.”

That intention carries through the entire menu, where each dish is deeply considered without being fussy. Every flavor has a purpose. Every presentation feels artful yet grounded.

We tried several dishes—and we’d 100% order every single one again. The Savory Cannoli Dip is whipped ricotta, mascarpone, sea salt, lemon, pistachio, smoked honey in herb-salt cannoli shells. To die for.

The Fire Blistered Peppers? Amazing. The Campanelle with butter, white wine, garlic, calabrian chilis, and lump crab… melts in your mouth.

It would be a shame for anyone to miss out on the Wood Fired Wagyu Ribeye, with its smoked sugar rub and beurre rouge. And if there’s room for dessert (oh, just go for it), the Creme Brulee Cheesecake, with crème fraiche, almond flour and rolled oat crust, red wine caramel, and a duck fat cookie crumble.

And let’s not forget the drinks. The “24 Carats” cocktail—beautiful, balanced, and served with the cutest little straw—was a standout. It’s the kind of drink you order once… and then again before dessert.

A Space to Stay Awhile

Set on the Boardwalk, Flamant offers a view of the water fountain from its patio, making it one of those rare places that feels both luxurious and familiar. A spot where you can slow down. Catch up. Celebrate.

“There are so many people here tonight I haven’t seen in a while,” Tanner said, glancing around the room during our chat. “For years, with the Dallas restaurant and everything that happened, we’ve been kind of disconnected from this side of town. But this community made Rye. They gave us our start. This feels like coming home.”

He added with a laugh, “It’s fun to see people again—and even more fun to feed them.”

Mark Your Calendar

Flamant is in soft opening now for those who want to experience it before the official buzz hits. The grand opening is June 10, and if our experience was any indication, reservations will be in high demand.

Whether you’re there for date night, girls’ night, a cocktail at golden hour, or a full celebratory dinner—you’ll walk away with a new favorite spot and a reminder of what hospitality, at its best, really feels like.

This isn’t just another restaurant opening. It’s the next chapter of a story that started in our own backyard—and one we’re lucky to see continue.
