Keep up with the action all season long: 2014 Frisco High School Football Schedules and Results
Week 5 is now in the books, and there are two teams that claim sole possession of first place in District 9-5A. One of these schools has been rampaging since the start of the season; the other struggled in its first two matches only to rebound nicely in their first two district games.
W Frisco Lone Star (5-0, 3-0) VS. Little Elm (1-4, 1-2)—56-14
The Frisco Lone Star Rangers continued their romp through their District 9-5A competition, as they easily dispatched of the Little Elm Lobos. The Jason Shelley Show continued, as the sophomore QB made his presence felt in the game’s opening minutes; scoring on an 11-yard run with 11:15 left in the first quarter. Fast-forward to halftime, and the Rangers led 49-0.
Shelley combined for an even 300 yards of total offense with five touchdowns—he was incredibly consistent with his passing game, completing 80% of his tosses for over 200 yards and three of his five scores. RB Robert Hall had a big night too, with 52 yards rushing and three TDs. WRs Jordan Jones and Michael Johnson combined for 162 yards receiving with two TDs. The Lobos, held to just 121 yards of offense, were led by RB Jonathan Porter (42 yds rushing).
W Frisco Centennial (2-2, 2-0) VS. Frisco High (3-2, 2-1)—41-7
After being outscored 103-35 over their first two games of the year, the Centennial Titans took full advantage of a Week 3 bye, and haven’t loss since. Last week’s 41-7 thumping of the Frisco Raccoons was easily their biggest win thus far, and once the playoff picture comes into focus, this victory might just be viewed as their biggest of the season.
The Raccoons had not lost in district coming into this game, and were riding the coattails of the area’s leading rusher, Paul Terry (993 yds, 12 TDs). In fact, it was Terry that scored the ‘Coons’ lone score that brought Frisco into a 7-7 tie. From that point forward, it was all Titans all the time. Up 20-7 at the half, Centennial would tack on 21 more points in the second half to cruise to the easy win.
QB Court Walker threw for 130 yards and two TDs, including an 80-yard bomb to Riley Brasuell in the closing moments of the first quarter. RB Anthony Pegues, building off his career-night a week ago against Wakeland, rushed for 184 yards and two scores. Despite the losing effort, Paul Terry once again had a huge night for Frisco, rumbling for 154 yards and a TD.
W Frisco Wakeland (3-1, 1-1) @ Frisco Liberty (2-3, 1-2)—17-3
After falling to the Titans in a close Week 4 matchup, the Wolverines of Wakeland were able to hold off the RedHawks in a close contest. This game could have gone either way, as it wasn’t until a fourth quarter TD by Brent Altieri (78 yds, TD) added some breathing room for the Wolverines with 2:31 remaining in the contest.
The RedHawks were held to just 192 total yards of offense, and were led by RB Darrell Reese (64 yds).
L Frisco Independence (1-4, 0-3) VS. The Colony (3-2, 1-2)—2-56
Up 38-0 at halftime, The Colony Cougars controlled every facet of the game from the opening kickoff. The Colony could do no wrong as their defense overmatched Independence QB Kyle Saddler (2 INTs, -26 yds rushing), and rendered the Knights’ (normally) solid running game punchless, holding holding them to just 56 total yards of offense.
RB Kendrick Johnson (139 yds, 3 TDs) ran rampant on the hapless Knights defense, and two QBs (Chris Green, and Jemel Jones) combined for 95 yards passing and three TDs. One highlight (and the lone score) for the Knights occurred in the third quarter when Myles Russell returned a fumbled PAT 90 yards for a safety.
L Frisco Legacy Christian (3-1, 0-1) VS. Tyler Grace Community (3-1, 1-0)—35-49
The Legacy Christian Eagles knew that their jump to DII would present some daunting challenges. In the Eagles’ first district game, these tests became quite apparent. Tyler Grace Community used their elite running game to punish Legacy’s defense in the first half, enabling them to pile on the points on an exhausted line and secondary in the second half.
Grace Community’s Zach Tatman (271 yds, 2 TDs) showed why he is considered one of the finest runners in the district. All told, the Cougars roared to 544 total yards of offense. That being said, Legacy did manage to put together a solid offensive showing as Chase Eisenmann (173 yds, 2 TDs) continued to shine and QB Chase Moake (229 yds, 2 TDs) had another solid game. All told, the Eagles gained 443 total yards, but in the end, Grace Community simply had too many weapons for Legacy’s defense to contend with.
