Summertime is a great time to schedule more culture into your family’s life… Here are all the aesthetic and artistic events happening in Frisco this July!
July 7-August 1 – Various Summer Camps at the Frisco Discovery Center
9am to 5pm. From “oshibana,” the Japanese art of pressed flower-making, to honing athletic skills for football, a diverse array of camps are being held at the Frisco Discovery Center. Visit their site for descriptions and contact individual camp hosts for details. Pricing and ages vary.
July 7 – FREE Acting Workshop, Plano Children’s Theatre
For the future thespian in your family, from 6pm to 8pm. This monthly session is free admission but you must RSVP: 972-422-2575.
July 12-18, “The Path to Happiness: Yoga, Meditation, and Discourse Workshop” – JKYOG
Try yoga and meditation for one week at the Frisco Discovery Center! Through yogic poses, breathing exercises, meditation, body relaxation, and the science of proper diet, you will: Deepen your own body, mind, and soul connection: Learn to be in the present; Explore the path to inner peace; Deepen your understanding of yourself in the context of the Divine; Rechannel, harmonize, and restore energy within you; Deepen love for the Divine. Attend the first hour and 15 minutes for a yoga and meditation session and/or attend Swami Mukunanda’s discourses on spirituality afterward. Dinner will be served after the program. July 13-14 – Frisco Community Theatre (non-equity) Auditions for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee – A Musical”
1-4PM and 7-10PM, respectively. By William Finn, Rachel Sheinkin, & Rebecca Feldman. Director: Neale Whitmore; Music Director: Shane Hurst; Choreographer: Christian O’Neill Houston FCT is seeking 5 men and 4 women ages 18 – 50. Only one male role is non-singing. Auditions will be by appointment with possible callbacks Tuesday, July 15 from 7:00 – 10:00PM. Please prepare 2 songs (at least 16 bars), one upbeat and one ballad. Bring music, an accompanist will be provided. Bring a photo and resume, even if you have auditioned for FCT before. Auditions and performances will be at the Frisco Discovery Center. The rehearsal period will be July 27 – September 4, typically Monday through Thursday, 7:00 – 10:00PM. There will be 10 performances from September 5 – 21 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the Black Box Theater in the Frisco Discovery Center. Performers will receive a $200 stipend. July 25 – “Lights” Late Night Light-Painting Workshop
In conjunction with the “Lights” exhibition, local artists Bob Moroch and Jody Wissing are offering a hands-on workshop on light-painting in the Special Events Center. Learn the definition of “light-painting,” the equipment and techniques, and then experiment with this art medium! Beginners are welcome. Experienced photographers are encouraged to bring a tripod and camera with bulb-setting. Ages 15 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
July 1-31 – “Lights” Juried Art Exhibition
This juried art show hosted by Frisco Arts will feature pieces incorporating literal and intangible lighting in a variety of mediums and styles. Jurors are Adela Andea, Bob Moroch, and Paul Pena. July 21-31 – “New View” Art Exhibition
Local young artists, Daisy Velo and Saul Faz, present a duo show of selected works done in acrylic, ink, and spraypaint in the newly renovated “Classroom” space, formerly known as the “Workshop” at the Frisco Discovery Center. Meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments, an informal gallery talk, and live music on Sunday, July 27 from 3-5PM.
