Frisco Duck Feeding, a simple and free kid-friendly activity

How many times have you cleared out the pantry since Christmas?  How many boxes or packets of expired snacks, crackers, and cookies have you found and started to throw in the trash (unless of course you have a four-legged friend who gets an extra treat?)  Well, STOP!

Before it gets hot, throw the kids in the car on a Saturday, or even some evening before bedtime, and go feed some of our local ducks. If you are lucky this time of year, you may even come across some ducklings and turtles 😉

Here are a few favorite spots…

FRISCO COMMONS PARK
8000 McKinney Road, Frisco

A lot of people stop by the play area in Frisco Commons known as“Hope Park,” but not everyone ventures to the back to the pond where you will find some hungry ducks. Just walk past the play structure on your right, and take a path either side of the Veterans Memorial to uncover a green, an amphitheater, and the pond at the bottom. It’s also stocked for fishing too.

WARREN SPORTS COMPLEX
7599 Eldorado Parkway

Entering from Eldorado parkway drive towards the car park, but stay left and park at the Tennis courts. From there, walk down the trail to the right hand side of the courts towards the large pond home to a whole host of ducks. There is also a wooden platform for easy viewing and throwing skill!

PLANTATION RESORT COMMUNITY
East Frisco, Jerome Trail, just off Hillcrest Road

I consider this my little secret and my daughter loves coming here. She says “the ducks are nicer, mommy” and there are a couple of white geese as well. This particular pond is part of the golf course that runs through the community. You can park the car on one of the side residential streets opposite and walk across to the bank where they usually come up to meet you for food. The area is well shaded with mature trees also.

LITTLE ELM BEACH PARK
701 West Eldorado Parkway

My find of 2014!  It’s just a little drive beyond Frisco heading west on Eldorado towards Lake Lewisville. Plenty of parking and activities for the little ones. A really cute beach to enjoy some family time and then a separate area where the ducks hang out. Great photo opportunities.

WATTERS CREEK
970 Garden Park Drive, Allen

A bit further a field but well a mention for weekend brunches with the family. There is plenty of green space for the kids to run beside the duck pond and there are cute new ducklings.

Some private communities have their own resident ducks, too. Remember, this is a simple and free activity the kids will love while making memories.  Where do you like to feed our feathered friends?
