When the weather cools, the kids go back to school, football starts, and a pumpkin spice latte shows up on the menu again, it must mean one thing… FALL!
Near the corner of Main and Teel, Frisco residents of all ages can get their fill of fall and kick off the season right.
Pumpkins on the Prairie is a pumpkin patch that’s been in Frisco for 11 years. It opened on October 2nd and will stay open until Halloween (the 31st). The patch is perfect for families wanting to enjoy the fall days in Texas, but might not want to venture all the way to the State Fair with little ones.
Fall isn’t normally a season kids really look forward to… school starts back up and the pools and ice creamed summer days fade away into tests and homework. So, a little family fun at Pumpkins on the Prairie can get everyone in the right frame of mind. Kids can join in on fall activities like a pumpkin launch (you basically throw pumpkins on a catapult), face painting, a hay maze, hayrides, a bounce house, a kids’ patch, and photo op areas for the parents.

Pumpkins on the Prairie also boasts pumpkin carvings, craft shows, and family movie nights with Halloween-themed movies. All of the activities, outside of the pumpkin-launching, are free to guests. Even parking and admission is free, and that’s a whole lot cheaper than the State Fair. For parents looking to keep their kids busy on FISD vacation day (it’s Monday, the 14th, so don’t worry… you still have time to plan), Pumpkins on the Prairie is extending their hours for that day opening at 9am and they have special face paintings from 11am-3pm.
For those of you who don’t particularly care for Fall or Halloween, Pumpkins on the Prairie will have a holiday bazaar where you can “get your gifting on” early on October 19th from 9am-4pm featuring Christmas crafts, gifts, scrap-booking supplies, hand-crafted jewelry, home décor, foods, stained glass, and glass art. They will also host The Bake Shoppe with homemade cookies, cake brownies, and tons of other holiday-themed goodies.
Shuttle all your little ones to all the activities around the pumpkin patch in wagons, and when you need a break, the hayride runs all day. The pumpkin patch is also selling pumpkins with prices ranging from $3 to $50, and also has gourds and mini-pumpkins for sale.
Run by Grace Avenue United Methodist Church, Pumpkins on the Prairie is supported and operated by volunteers. The proceeds from Pumpkins on the Prairie go to the GAMMA, Grace Avenue Mission, Ministry and Assistance, which helps fund outreach efforts to help those in need. If you’re interested in helping out, you can sign up on the Pumpkins on the Prairie website.
