Frisco High School Football Game of the Week: Wakeland vs Trinity Christian

For many Frisco football teams, Week 4 might as well be referred to as “Rest Week.” Four schools have byes before next week’s district kick-off; but there are still some excellent games to check out tonight. Two of the three games feature undefeated Frisco teams looking to continue the magic—and the Game of the Week is a matchup between two of the area’s top-ranked teams.

GOTW

Frisco Wakeland (1-1) Vs. Trinity Christian-Addison (3-0)

The Wolverines exploded for 52 points in week one against Richardson, but were held in check by the Pearce defense last week. Trinity Christian-Addison will be an excellent test to see how the Wolverines may fair come next week’s arrival of district play.

Occasionally, when a private school is listed on a team’s pre-district schedule, there is a tendency to overlook them. When it comes to Trinity Christian-Addison, this would be a huge oversight.

TCA is a private school that could seamlessly segue into a 4A or 5A district, and hold their own. Hey, it’s why there are tne No. 1 ranked large private school in the area.

Wakeland, no strangers to Area Rankings themselves, will have their hands full with  a Trojans offense that is averaging 53 points per game.  TCA’s Christian Hultzer already has over 1,000 yards passing and the Trojans bolster one of the deepest running games in the area if not the state, flaunting four running backs with over 200 yards.

Once again cracking the 4A Area Top 20, the Wolverines  wold love nothing better than to wash away the bitter taste of last week’s 3-point loss by pounding Trinity Christian.

Although the Trojans are excellent top-to-bottom, when the Wolverines are firing on all cylinders they can be difficult to stop.  If QB Jackson Lamb has time in the pocket he alone can pick apart a defense by utilizing a talented receiving core featuring three WRs averaging more than 20 yards per catch—Justice Williams (23.5), Alex Marr (20.5), and Jake White (20.7).

This game has the potential to be an exciting, high-scoring affair; a must-see showdown.

Private Schools/TAPPS

Frisco Legacy Christian (3-0) Vs. FW Southwest Christian (1-2)

FriscoLegacy

FW Southwest Christian travels to Frisco tonight to see about halting Legacy’s excellent start.

SCS’s focus is primarily on defense, and they do have some impact players, especially at linebacker.  Patrick Cronin is a run-stuffing monster and fellow LB Daniel Rush is strong enough to drop head-ringing hits and fast enough to drop back into coverage.

SCS hasn’t yet faced a team as balanced as Legacy, however—and certainly hasn’t seen an option QB that can do the things Ryan Davis can. Should SCS find a way to contain Davis, they’d better have a plan in place to stop C.J. Encalade who I feel may have a huge night tonight.

3A

Frisco Lone Star (3-0) @ Van Alstyne (2-1)

The Van Alstyne Panthers are a Division 2A team, but don’t let that distinction fool you, as they are more than capable of hanging with the big boys. The key for the Rangers to improve to 4-0 is in stopping Panthers QB Alex Phillips and his favorite multi-option running back, Terry Lawrence.

Despite the Panthers’ two stars, the Lone Star Rangers feature an offense that may be too much for the Van Alstyne defense to contain.  Look for QB Chase Moake and RB Ramon Harris to once again spearhead an offense that has put up multiple 400 yard outbursts thus far.

Be sure to check back often for next week’s Lifestyle Frisco district preview edition!
