Play-Well TEKnologies, a project-based programs that teaches principles and methods of engineering to children utilizing LEGO®, will host two Minecraft Engineering Camps at the National Videogame Museum next Tuesday, December 20th.

The National Videogame Museum (NVM) is the only museum in America dedicated to the history of the videogame industry. NVM features more than 100,000 videogame consoles, games, and artifacts on rotation from the past and present. This interactive museum brings to life science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) values by tapping into America’s enthusiasm for playing and creating videogames.

Minecraft is often described as a “sandbox game,” a virtual land where users can create their own worlds and experiences, using building blocks, resources discovered on the site, and their own creativity.

The game is available on multiple platforms. You can play on a computer, smartphone, tablet, X Box or Playstation, and it’s growing in popular, especially among primary-aged children.

Why is it so popular?

Since its release in 2009, Minecraft has quickly become one of the most popular games in the world. As an indie game built by a very small team, Minecraft’s success isn’t down to massive resources or a carefully planned advertising strategy. So what explains its popularity with children?

Minecraft has been described as a game with no rules. It doesn’t come with a set of instructions, or a stated objective – players can build and explore however they want. It’s often compared to virtual Lego.

Session 1: Minecraft Engineering

Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO®! Build engineer-designed projects such as a motorized Creeper, a portal to the Nether, and a moving Minecart! Create your favorite Minecraft objects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Whether you are new to Minecraft and LEGO or a seasoned veteran, you’ll be hooked on the endless creative possibilities. (Ages 5-7) $35 per child from 10am to 12:30pm.

Session 2: Minecraft Master Engineering

Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO®! Build a motorized walking Creeper, a terrifying Ghast, and a motorized Minecart! This project-based camp, designed by Play-Well instructors, combines the basic format of our core engineering-themed programs based on the world of Minecraft. Students will explore real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture while building their favorite Minecraft objects. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO. (Ages 7-12) $35 per child from 1:30pm to 4pm.

REGISTER NOW so your child can participate next week at the National Videogame Museum inside the Frisco Discovery Center!
