Bonnie Ruth’s Bistro is an inviting European-style restaurant nestled in the North Dallas Tollway-Lebanon intersection with water fountain and chic little tables that beg you to sip Champagne or linger over a mimosa.  On the inside, you’re greeted by a warm French décor of chic black and white floor tiles, against a dark wood bar, big gilded mirrors, and traditional French art.  It’s hard not to feel transported to a quaint restaurant and bakery in France from the moment you walk in.

bonnie ruths patio friscoEarly fall in Frisco is perfect patio weather, and it’s hard to find one as gorgeous as Bonnie Ruth’s.  The patio is a full-on European experience, a brasserie with foliage-enhanced concrete walls and an expansive tree in the middle offering the perfect amount of shade.  Lights strung overhead adding a warm, festive feeling in the evenings and a fireplace adorns the back of the patio.

I went for lunch and the menu was simple but decadent with mostly sandwiches, soups, salads, and pizzas.  The lunch special is a half-sandwich with soup and salad for $9.95, so I ordered the ham quiche and it did not disappoint.  With a crust that was flaky and buttery, this was no small personal quiche.  It was a slice of a pie that was filled with tender ham, cheddar cheese, bell peppers, and onions.  Their quiche is, no doubt, the best I’ve had stateside.  Fresh and savory, each bite was a reward for the last, and you never wanted to stop eating it.  Ditto on the pomme frites (French fries for us Frisconians)… crispy and perfectly seasoned.  The best way I can describe a meal at Bonnie Ruth’s is rich and mouth-watering… tasting the way you always wanted quiche and fries to taste, but you never realized until you had them.

I also tried the Pesto Chicken sandwich, and I can tell you that they make the pesto in the kitchen from scratch.  Delicious with tender chicken slathered with pesto and veggies… all smacked into a home made roll.  This sandwich would pair well with their tomato basil soup that’s to die for.  With a rich tomato flavor, saturated with basil, seasonings, and other veggies, this soup is a perfect nosh on a cooler, fall weather day.

bonnie ruths frisco - 002I normally don’t recommend ending every meal with dessert but Bonnie Ruth’s is such an experience that you can’t really end it any other way.  Their Chocolate Cheesecake is rich, sweet & buttery… it’s palatable perfection on a plate.  I also tried the Blueberry Cake and the home cream icing is worth the money all by itself.

Dinner is also a hit, and with a romantic French atmosphere, a respectable wine list, and shareable desserts, it’s no wonder this makes our list of top date night spots in Frisco.

Saving the best for last, Bonnie Ruth’s is a must for brunch.  If you’re looking for that perfect breakfast/brunch spot to enjoy with someone, or to take out-of-town visitors, this is your place.  With all of the traditional breakfast trappings laced in a French twist, you’ll leave full and ready for a proper afternoon nap.

So, don’t let Bonnie Ruth’s pass you by.  Go visit this Frisco delicacy. It’s a perfect spot for a brunch, happy hour, a working lunch, or for ladies-who-lunch, and you’ll thoroughly enjoy your visit.  Bon appetit!!
