Scott Ellis: On the show today we’re gonna talk to Lisa Stubbs about running your own business and how you can have gorgeous, younger-looking hair.
Welcome to the Frisco Podcast Lisa Stubbs. Good to have you here today.
Lisa Stubbs: Thank you, I’m thrilled to be here and so privileged. Definitely.
Scott Ellis: Well we’re happy to have you here. You’ve got kind of an interesting business and we’re gonna talk about that in a little bit, but the first thing I have to ask is, I want to make sure I’m pronouncing it properly; Monet?
Lisa Stubbs: It’s Monate. It’s short for Modern Nature.
Scott Ellis: Okay very good. Now we know what it means as well. So, for everybody out there that maybe doesn’t necessarily know already what Monate is, can you tell us a little bit about the company and their products?
Lisa Stubbs: Sure. We are the first network marketing business out there that is dedicated to anti-aging hair care and it’s a naturally based botanical line that has been clinically proven, which is amazing. And then also, it’s guaranteed to perform. It’s kind of turning the hair industry on it’s head because it’s delivering what people want with their hair care for the first time really. It actually does what it says it’s gonna to for our hair.
Scott Ellis: That’s good to know. Anti-aging hair care. That sounds like a very specialized niche. Now, I don’t have hair, I’m bald and I shave what little I have left off the top of my head, so this probably wouldn’t affect me as directly, but who is the target audience? Who are the people who are most gonna benefit from what you guys do? And then we can talk a little bit more in the details of how it actually works.
Lisa Stubbs: Sure. So this line is really for any gender, any age. It’s a healthy line of products so it’s 100 percent toxin free and so anybody who just wants to improve the ingredients that they’ve been using in their products, this would be a good fit for them and anybody who is even looking to regrow hair. I suffered personally from some hair loss next to my temples and also gobs in the shower. I had very dry, damaged hair and so it’s helped my hair completely transform, but it can also aid those who are suffering with psoriasis or dandruff or just a lot of frizz or unmanageable hair, unruly hair, just about anything that somebody is frustrated with, with their hair.
Scott Ellis: Are there any particular hair types that it does work better for than others?
Lisa Stubbs: No. It actually covers every hair type whether it’s thin or thick, or if you have an oily scalp or a dry scalp, it helps to- the flagship product that we have is called Rejuvenate, and it’s an oil that’s a blend of eleven essential oils and it actually, it’s patent pending to mimic our skin’s natural oil production. So when people are using this shampoo, it will balance out their PH level on their oil production on their scalp, so it gives our hair and skin what it needs.
Scott Ellis: Okay, fair enough. So, let’s talk about the business side of this a little bit. I know that it’s a- Network marketing is kind of the business structure, but you guys are, you’re growing and you’ve got a pretty good business going here in Frisco. I know that you’re helping a lot of people right now and I think that was part of the reason we wanted to make sure we’re helping you get the word out about what you’re doing. There are a lot of things that can cause people to have issues with their hair. Anything from just sort of natural, genetic based things to medical issues that come and go and things like that.
So as you guys are growing your business, you’re helping a lot of people in and around the Frisco area, but talk to us a little bit more about the business side and what made you want to do this particular business. So, of all the things you could’ve done, why this one?
Lisa Stubbs: We have gotten into so financial struggle situations for about seven years, and I wanted to jump back in and help, but I didn’t want to until my youngest were in Kindergarten. So I waited until that happened, but I did start with Monate part time, which was very flexible for my schedule and I could work from home, and I was able to have the supplemental income coming in. And then once my youngest started Kindergarten, I was able to switch to full time which has been amazing. What I really like about network marketing is that it’s fun, it’s flexible, and I can structure my hours around my schedule.
I can still be the room mom a school, and I can attend field trips and I can volunteer with my church and I still have time for those kinds of things throughout my day and meeting up with a friend for lunch. I can still do all those things but still have this business, and I really like that flexibility and being able to look forward to the future with having even more time and financial freedom as I work to help others succeed as well. Because our founder of the company, he says you will only succeed if you invest in the success of others. It’s just been a wonderful experience to be able to help others not only restore their confidence it that’s been lost through hair issues and concerns or if it’s needing an extra stream of income paying off a mortgage or paying for a car or buying groceries. It helps in those kinds of ways.
So it’s just been very very satisfying in that regard.
Scott Ellis: Tell us a little bit that you can about the history of the company. Maybe a little bit about the founder. How did this come about initially? Is there a story there?
Lisa Stubbs: Yes there is. So Senior Louise Arnetta founded the company, and he started maybe when he was about eighteen in Tupperware and he ended up having so much success that he was the number one Tupperware salesman in Venezuela where he’s from. He and his family, eventually years later, started in the garage working on a skin care line that’s called Loudine, he named it after his wife, and it has done really well down in the Latin American countries, in five of them down there, and it’s a natural based line.
Not available to us in the United States, however, he set it up in that same social spelling where word of mouth is how you share, and was able to take that same set up and come up as a citizen in the United States and live in Miami Florida. And opened up this shampoo company because there was not a niche- a niche- I’m not sure how to pronounce that. Is it niche or niche?
Scott Ellis: I think either one, tomato, tomato.
Lisa Stubbs: Okay, okay, so I’ll start that again. So they come up with the niche with shampoo in network marketing. There’s nobody in that industry, in that field, where there’s fifty one plus health and wellness companies, there’s forty one plus beauty companies, and we’re the only ones completely focused on hair care. So they tested some of the ingredients at Tri-Princeton and were able to receive that patent pending certification to show that this oil mimics our skin’s natural oil. We lovingly refer to it as magic liquid gold, and so to be able to come into the industry first is a very big deal, and to not have any competitors is also a pretty exciting experience to be part of.
Help to launch a company beyond that ground floor has just been incredible, because most people haven’t heard of it. It’s a very unsaturated market, and the more I’ve been involved, I’m shocked and surprised how many people have a frustration with their hair or their scalp, so it’s been very rewarding financially that way.
Scott Ellis: Yeah I can imagine that- first of all, I love a good immigrant story. I’ve had experiences with a lot of folks who have come here from overseas. My business is primarily IT and then we of course Lifestyle Frisco, but in the time I’ve been out on my own, I’ve had the chance to work with a lot of folks that have come over, started businesses, and it’s always nice to get a different perspective and hear a different story of somebody who came and had a chance to make something out of themselves. I think that’s still a big part of the American Dream and when they get to share that with other people it’s great.
And certainly being in on the ground floor is always a good thing when you’ve got a growing business.
Lisa Stubbs: Yes, absolutely. Yes, never expected changing my shampoo was going to be changing my life but it’s been a miracle. It’s been a tender mercy that’s for sure.
Scott Ellis: Very good. So let’s talk a little bit more then about the products and then we can come back to the business side. I want to be careful here because I know anytime you’ve got a healthcare product, there are a lot of them that make a lot of claims.
Lisa Stubbs: Right.
Scott Ellis: Many of them do not work at all, many of them do, but even for the ones that work, it tends to- there’s the variable of the individual, right? Not everybody gets exactly the same results. So, if I’m interested, if I’m having hair issues, or I just want to have healthier, stronger hair, or maybe I want to regrow a little hair or help that along, what do you tell me about why this is right for me or why- how is this going to really help me? How do I know it’s going to work for me?
Lisa Stubbs: So, Monate actually has a thirty day money back guarantee on every purchase for every product every time. It’s not just the first thirty days, but their guarantee in ninety days is that you will discover visibly longer, fuller, stronger, younger looking hair. Now, our first year in business we actually had- we were hoping to do one million in business and we ended up doing twenty five million, which is what Instagram did their first year, so that’s pretty exciting to be on that playing field, right?
Scott Ellis: Yep.
Lisa Stubbs: Then our second year, we closed out at sixty million and then this year, if our projections continue as things are going, we’ll close out at about three hundred million. And just to note with the sixty million, the jaw dropping aspect of that is that we have a less than one percent return rate. It’s point zero six and so you can take comfort in the fact that most people are not returning and if they are, in my experience wit my clients and customers, it’s more that they’re swapping out a product, maybe just changing something out. I do not have many that ever want to return per say, so that’s why this is just phenomenal. I’ve never seen anything like this.
My stylist has been a participant in nine different network marketing companies and this is the first one that has just really taken off.
Scott Ellis: When you show up with healthy, good looking, young looking hair yourself, I’m sure it speaks volumes for the product and how it works.
Lisa Stubbs: Yes. You can kind of tell when you look around, you can tell whose been using Monate. I have a friend who has not admitted to me that she’s using it and I knew she was and somebody told me she was and I thought, oh I knew it, I can tell. There’s just a natural shine that can come back to your hair which is really exciting because you feel just better when your hair looks better. It’s sixty percent of the look, so it’s very important to keep up on our hair.
Scott Ellis: Well I had hair once upon a time and I do remember how important it was to me so I can totally understand that. Totally can understand. I kind of like the baldness now, but that’s not for everybody, for sure.
Lisa Stubbs: Right, right.
Scott Ellis: Okay so, let’s talk a little bit more about the business, because I know there are some folks that are gonna be in similar situations. They want to make extra money, maybe they’re looking for the right opportunity. One, why would this be a good business for them to consider, and how do they get in touch with you if they’re interested in learning a little bit more?
Lisa Stubbs: That’s a great question. So, I will start out with my information just so that they have that right now if they get a pen and paper out. Lisa Stubbs, and my phone number is 972-693-3432, that’s 972-693-3432, and happy to take and field any phone calls for questions to see if it’s a fit for somebody or not. However, the easiest part of sharing this business is that anybody who can read and has Wi-Fi and a phone can do the business. So that’s what’s wonderful. We have a sheet called Dare to Succeed and we basically just read that.
If we’re meeting with somebody one on one, grabbing a smoothie or a coffee or meeting up for lunch, or grabbing a drink, we just meet together, and share, and read from this sheet front and back and it’s just that simple. You know, we just link arms with somebody and help to show them the way so we’re not leaving somebody on their own, and I really like that. The sponsor who introduced me to the business was able to help me talk to some people, because I’ll admit, I was nervous. I’d never been part of a network marketing company in this way and never wanted it to be a big business, and she took the lead and I was able to benefit and then learn from her and I’m now able to do it myself and help others and show them the way, and that’s the beauty of it.
It’s finding new friendships, I have met some many more people I never imagined, and they’ve blessed my life and I truly consider them good friends.
Scott Ellis: This episode of the Frisco Podcast is brought to you by Stan’s Main Street. If you’re out and about this weekend, they should be at the top of your mind of places to stop in and have a bite to eat. It’s a very family friendly environment, they’ve got great burgers, they got live music going on, Thursday, Friday, Saturday night. Just a good place to go hang out, catch a bite to eat in the middle of the day, maybe at dinner time if you don’t feel like cooking. Stop in, tell them we said hi.
So that helps widen just the circle and sphere of friends and people you know around town and it sounds like something, based on your own story, that you can do part time, if you just want to get started, or you can dive right in and go full time too, right?
Lisa Stubbs: Yes. That’s the beauty of it, network marketing, is that you are your own boss and you can set your own hours and decide how much you want to work. You can work as little as thirty minutes a day and still have a business where it’s just reaching out to people and sharing and I don’t consider it selling, just because it’s been so rewarding. You know like, if you go see a movie that you think is great, and you go and talk to your friends about the movie, you recommend it. Oh, you should go see this movie. Well this is just like Monate. I use this hair care product and I cannot believe the difference it’s made in my hair.
To be honest, after I had been using the products for about three months, people were actually coming to me and asking me what I had done to my hair, and for the next two months, that seemed to be the topic of conversation that I was having with most people that I was running into that I hadn’t seen here and there. So that’s why I actually took a look at the business because my sponsor said, if people are just coming to you, then you just need to start sharing this and a little bit more. So I did jump in at that point, but I had just been using the product for five months before I decided to start sharing it.
Scott Ellis: That’s good to know too. If it worked that well for you and you were happy with it, then that’s a good testimony all by itself. I think for anybody that’s interested, we’ll have all of Lisa’s information linked up and shared in the show notes, so if you didn’t write it down, if you’re listening to this in the car or at the gym, don’t worry about it. Just come out to lifestylefrisco.com/podcast and Lisa’s podcast will be there, you can click on that link and all of the contact information for her and everything else will be front and center so it’s easy for you to get in touch with her if you’re interested in trying their product, or you’re interested in starting your own business, if you will, as a part of this.
This is kind of an interesting one because if I remember correctly, the product has been tested and the results clinically proven and verified by a third party out of Princeton University, was that correct?
Lisa Stubbs: Tri-Princeton, mm-hmm (affirmative).
Scott Ellis: Tri-Princeton? Okay. So you’ve got-
Lisa Stubbs: For two years before they launched, yeah.
Scott Ellis: Right, so, it’s no joke. It’s a serious business and they’ve put a lot behind it and especially you know, if you’ve got hair issues, give her a call. If you just want stronger, thicker, younger looking hair, meet with Lisa. She’s a good example of what it can do from a business standpoint and a personal standpoint. Anything else you’d like to leave us with or something else you’d like us to know about the products of business before we go?
Lisa Stubbs: Yes, absolutely. So, I just want to mention that a lot of the products we’ve been using in the past contain parabens and silicone, and that’s actually wax that coats the surface of our hair or suffocates our hair strands and clogs our hair follicles. So what Monate does is it deep cleans and strips that buildup off of our hair and that’s how it restores it back to it’s natural shine and what’s phenomenal about the product also is that it even preserves natural and artificial color. So nobody needs to be worried about their hair color that they go and invest in for their hair, fading.
It actually helps to maintain that and that’s remarkable for a product line, as well as it being safe for extensions and even working better with tangles. I know a lot of parents love our juniors line right now just because of what it can deliver. The kids line we’ve been using that have been called tear-free, actually have a chemical in them that numbs the children’s eyes from those chemicals that are in the line. So for those that are more naturally minded and want to have non-toxic products or have a vegan line or no gluten, you’ll be pleasantly surprised and pleased with this line.
For those that are more science minded and want the proof, that’s where our clinical trials come in to play and we actually can release those to the public, so if anybody wants to see those, I’d be happy to send you a copy. We have nothing to hide and we have no adverse reactions or anything from the products. Seventy percent of those participants have ethnic hair and so that’s just saying they have the most volatile hair to work with and so if it can help their hair, it can help anybody’s hair. So that’s really exciting to be able to provide for everybody that’s out there. Anybody on the planet.
Scott Ellis: Well very good. Thank you for sharing that. The transparency is certainly very welcome. I think sharing that information and making that accessible will be great and if there’s any of those things we can just link to straight from within the show notes, I’ll get that from you and we’ll make sure we include that as well so people have easy access to all the information they’re looking for.
Lisa Stubbs: So, there are three different ways to purchase the product. You can purchase retail, where you’re not committed to anything, or you can be a VIP customer, that happens to be the most popular way to purchase because you receive a discount and free shipping. Then the third way is through a market partner where you receive the deepest discount and that’s what I ended up doing even though I had purchased- there are six in my family, so I wanted a lot of shampoo to test out- and there was no minimum monthly sales quota, and I also didn’t have to purchase every month if I didn’t care to. So I really liked that benefit to have that deep discount, but I could get it at the same price as my stylist. I thought that was impressive.
Scott Ellis: Okay. If people are interested in purchasing right out of the gate, if they already like what they’ve heard, they want to try it, what do they do? Where do they go?
Lisa Stubbs: So they would give me a call so I could help them get a personalized recommendation for their hair care. My name again is Lisa Stubbs. So you can call me at 972-693-3432 and I’d love to help you navigate and give you a personalized recommendation, or you may visit my website at sweethair.mymonat.com.
Scott Ellis: Okay, and we’ll have that linked up in the show notes as well so it’s very easy for everybody to get to. Lisa thank you so much for joining us today.
Lisa Stubbs: Thank you.
Scott Ellis: Keep up the good work. I want to see everybody in Frisco having gorgeous hair. Except for me.
Lisa Stubbs: Thank you, thank you very much.
Scott Ellis: You have a great day.
